It has been in the back of my mind to discuss frankincense, an amazing oil which we have been using for over four years now.  I could seriously write a short book on the complexity of this oil.  I often ask myself what is the point of these blogs? What am I trying to accomplish in this setting? My sincere hope is to educate through my experience and grasp of these extraordinary oils and supplements.

So let us step back a bit and review the foundation of essential oils. Today, steam distillation is the process used most often in collecting essential oils.  This intricate process involves a pressurized system that causes the steam to pass through the plant material or resin. This is by no means an exhaustive description of the operation for we are just tapping the surface.  This combination of steam and pressure causes the complex chemical compounds to be released in their purest form.   Now, remember the chemical compounds that are released are what gives the plant protection, resistance, and strength. Just think for a minute, the innovation of God’s creation of plants and people alike similar in their molecular makeup. Plants have the capacity to assist our physical bodies to restore themselves. How perfect!  According to Dr. David Stewart, “One drop of essential oil contains approximately 40 million-trillion molecules.”

Ok, so I am a visual learner.  I need to see this 40,000,000,000,000,000,000!  “Now we have approximately 100 trillion cells in our bodies. This means that one drop of essential oil contains enough molecules to cover every cell in our bodies with 40,000 molecules.” Truly astounding!  This explains the potency and efficacy of these oils. Have you digested that?  This overwhelming potential leads us to the benefits of frankincense. Now bear with me a minute while I get a little scientific with you to continue with this point.   Frankincense is full of Monoterpenes.  What is important about this?  “Monoterpenes can reprogram miswritten information in the cellular memory.”  The king of all oils impacts us on a cellular level. Frankincense can basically go into the cell and tell it to shape up or die.  We all have what is called apoptosis (cell death).  This is a normal physiological process. In fact, approximately 50,000 cells in your body have died and were replaced by new ones while you were reading this sentence.  In some instances this process malfunctions where false or inaccurate coding enters the DNA causing cells to mutate, leading to disease, possibly cancer.  With the never-ending state of change and exposure to toxins in our environment frankincense prevents and supports against this system malfunction.  This is where I get excited!  Its all about prevention!  If I can expose you to one of the most amazing oils of all time, then possibly get you to use it daily, we can perhaps prevent the future risk of unwanted pathogens or abnormal cell growth in your life and maybe even those you love.

So what are the practical applications of this incredible oil?  In the opinion of Dr. Scott Johnson, the Leader of the Evidenced-Based Approach, here are some of the top therapeutic properties:
  • Relief of discomfort, soreness, and aches
  • Reduces abnormal cell growth
  • Anti-aging
  • Reduction in the appearance of scars and blemishes
  • Reduces feelings of self doubt, calms emotions, and lifts the spirit
  • Supports concentration and focus
In our home, we use Doterra frankincense daily.  Most often it is used topically to increase the effectiveness of another oil or to reduce the lines of worry and stress.  Sometimes we use it aromatically to add focus and manage attentiveness in our twelve-year-old son who struggles with behavioral issues.   As of recently within the last year, we have used frankincense internally with our now thirteen-year-old Collie Stormy to help with cellular inflammation along her spine.  Don’t miss the blog that tells her amazing story. Its been a year and we still have her with us and walking!

It is no wonder why frankincense was a gift to the Christ child. In Matthew 2:11 we read, “In coming to the house, they saw the child and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”  If it was valued in the Bible, how about you?  Have you used your frankincense today?
